Another way of entering into our body


Microplastic breathing is just one way this plastic fiber ends up in our body. Another place someone can swallow mikroplastik is if they consume fish or shellfish. In 2016, a UN report documented more than 800 species of animals contaminated with plastic through consumption or attachment. This amount is about 70% greater than the 1977 review that estimated 247 species were contaminated at that time.

When fish and other seafood ingest microplastic, it becomes separate from their bodies. Then, when humans consumed the animals, they also swallowed mikroplastik. The research presented at the 26th United European Gastroenterology Week confirmed that microplastic can accumulate in the human intestinal tract. This shows that of the eight individuals from England, Austria, Finland, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Russia and Japan, each has microplastic traces in their stools.

According to lead researcher Philipp Schwabl, Ph.D., and Bettina Liebmann of the Austrian Environment Agency, seafood and bottled water are to blame. Another study published in April 2018 found microplastic in sea salt, beer, bottled water and water plumber. Based on consumer guidelines, their results show that on average people ingest more than 5,800 synthetic debris particles from these three sources, each year, with the largest contribution coming from tap water (88%).

How to avoid microscopy

Avoiding microplastic is a challenge, if not impossible. But there are several ways we can reduce our exposure. If you don’t want to have a plastic body, these tips can help:

1. Air Pollution
The fact that indoor air pollution is worse for microplastic exposure than outside air means that high-quality indoor air filters are very important.

Have you ever been near a window in your house when the sunlight came in at the right angle and saw small particles floating in the air? The particles are not just dirt, but they are plastic and the fibers you breathe day after day.

2. Drinking water
If you drink tap water, you can risk not only microplastic, but hormones, drugs, and other chemicals. I personally use Berkey Water Filters with 2 carbon-based elements, and 2 fluoride / arsenic filters.

It not only makes the water taste good, but basically removes any chemicals, hormones, drugs and microplastic you can imagine.

Another good choice for removing microplastic from water is reverse osmosis. A lot of time you can get an 18 liter water jug ​​from a grocery store, but this water is stored in plastic, which can easily dissolve into the water we drink. A better choice is to install a reverse osmosis water filtration system in your home (but this can be expensive).

3. Avoid fish and seafood if possible
If you can avoid fish and seafood, you will reduce the possibility of ingesting large amounts of microplastic. Because microplastic inundates our waters, almost all fish and shellfish are polluted.

4. Reducing Dependence on Plastics
Reducing how much plastic we use is another good way to stop the plastic cycle ending in our environment. Stop drinking from plastic water bottles, and avoid styrofoam containers (bring your own container to bring back food if you eat outside). Stay away from products that contain microbeads (which can be found in scrubs and toothpastes). .
